Description:
„"Benston King Size" is a classic-designed cigarette pack from the Croatian manufacturer "TDR - Tvornica Duhana Rovinj", created in the style of Western brands. The design is minimalist: a white background, "Benston" written in bright blue font in the central part, a stylized red and blue line strip below it, and at the top - the "TDR" logo with two lions and the inscription "1872". This symbolizes the long-standing tradition of tobacco production. The side inscriptions read "20 Filter Cigarettes". The warning "Pušenje šteti vašem zdravlju" indicates that the product was intended for the domestic Croatian market. The excise sticker with the price "10.00 kuna" allows us to conclude that the pack was released around the late 1990s or early 2000s.
Value assessment:
Collectible Value: Average. Although not considered an extremely rare TDR edition, Benston has enduring collectible value as a typical product of Croatia's transitional period, when local manufacturers attempted to create brands similar to international names (Benson, Winston). For this reason, Benston is interesting as an example reflecting marketing trends in post-Soviet Central Europe.
Condition assessment: Unopened, original film, excellent condition, excise stamp preserved.
Historical data and popularity:
„Benston was produced by TDR Rovinj as a local product for the domestic market, but its name clearly played on associations with Benson & Hedges or Winston. As a result, the cigarettes received attention as a marketing attempt to adapt a Western image to Croatian conditions. The brand was not widely exported, so only small quantities of unopened packs survive.
