Description:
This Ghent Special – one of the few known Albanian tobacco industry products, distinguished by its simple but solid design. The packaging exudes the minimalist aesthetic of the late 20th century: white background, red and blue stripes and clear brand inscription GENT gives it the appearance of Western style, even though the product itself was produced in a strictly closed communist system.
Visible at the top of the road blue excise stamp with the inscription "ALBANIA"„, and on the side – clear „Made in Albania“ inscription. The red "G" symbol with a sun motif at the top denotes a national manufacturer - Durres Tobacco Factory, which has produced almost all of the country's cigarette brands since 1960.
„The "Speciale" version was considered higher quality line, intended for both the local market and rare exports to neighboring Balkan countries (Yugoslavia, Greece).
Value assessment:
– Collectible value: High – Albanian tobacco products are extremely rare on the Eastern European collectors' market, as their exports were very limited. The Gent Speciale is considered one of the three most famous cigarette brands in Albania (along with Dajti and Partizani).
– Condition assessment: Excellent - cellophane is intact, excise stamp is clearly visible, corners are clean, minimal signs of age on the surface.
– Historical data and popularity: „Gent appeared in the late 1970s and remained in production until the mid-1990s. Due to the lockdown and limited production, these packs are today one of the most sought-after specimens among collectors in the Balkan region.
