Description:
This is a classic Taiwanese cigarette pack called 「新樂園」 (Xin Le Yuan – "New Paradise") is one of the old local brands, created when the State Tobacco and Alcohol Monopoly Bureau controlled all domestic production.
The design of the package is particularly distinctive – a turquoise green background with deep yellow borders and traditional Chinese ornaments. The composition is dominated by classic vertical text with gold calligraphy, which conveys an impression of ancient quality and national pride.
This pack is a great example of how the Taiwanese tobacco industry tried to maintain an "old world" aesthetic in the 1960s and 1970s, contrasting with the modernizing designs in Japan and South Korea. The back features a short ad describing the smooth, "aromatic tea-flavored" tobacco, a characteristic of oriental cigarettes.
Value assessment:
– Collectible value: High - Old Taiwanese tobacco monopoly packets are extremely rare, especially in this condition and with the original film. The Xin Le Yuan series is rare even on the Asian collector's market.
– Condition assessment: Excellent - unopened, original cellophane wrap, bright colors, all printed elements clearly visible.
– Historical significance: This pack represents one of the last periods when Taiwan's tobacco production was completely state-controlled. The design reflects the classic style of the "Republican Period" (民國時代).
