Description:
This red version classical 新樂園香菸 (Xin Le Yuan) package made of Taiwan Tobacco and Alcohol Monopoly Bureau (台灣省菸酒公賣局). This design is considered one of the most recognizable examples of early Taiwanese cigarettes, with a distinctly vintage aesthetic.
The bright red background symbolizes success and prosperity, a traditionally lucky color in Chinese culture. The golden hieroglyphs, decorated with floral ornaments, give the path an impression of solemnity and ancient luxury. In the center of the composition is the name „新樂園“, which literally means „New Paradise“.
The back features promotional text emphasizing "excellent aroma and mild taste", while at the bottom is a health warning in traditional Chinese (行政用院衛行署解警), added in later years, typical of the late 1980s period.
Value assessment:
– Collectible value: High – the red variant is rarer than the blue one (turquoise) edition. Due to its color and excellent condition, the packet is considered a valuable exhibit of Asian tobacco design.
– Condition assessment: Excellent - unopened, with original film, bright gold lettering, surface without visible defects.
– Historical significance: Reflecting a period when Taiwan was still a closed economy and the tobacco industry was controlled by the state, these packets are now considered examples of national heritage design.
