Description:
„Iceberg Menthol“ – this Tanzania Cigarette Company Ltd. (TCC) a product belonging to the Japan Tobacco International (JTI) group. This menthol King Size pack is intended for the East African market, mainly Tanzania, Zambia and Kenya. The design is modern, minimalist, typical of the early 2000s: a white background with a horizontal green stripe and white "ICEBERG" logo, marked with the inscription "King Size" and a gray mountain symbol at the top, conveying the association of coolness and cleanliness.
An inscription is visible on the side „Made in Tanzania by Tanzania Cigarette Company Ltd“, and on top is a Tanzanian excise stamp with a lion emblem, confirming official production on the local market. On the back is a short description in English: „"Iceberg, a premium menthol cigarette made of fine menthol quality tobacco giving you the ultimate cooling effect."“
It was one of the higher-end local cigarettes, aimed at consumers looking for a "cleaner", cooler tasting alternative to standard African tobaccos, which were usually strong and heavy.
Value assessment:
-
Collectible value: Average. African (especially Tanzanian) origin packs are still rare, but Iceberg is a relatively new product (not as historically significant as, for example, Supermatch or Embassy). More valuable as a specimen from a regional producer.
-
Condition assessment: Very good - original cellophane, excise stamp intact, packaging clean and bright.
-
Historical data: Tanzania's cigarette industry has been developing since independence in 1961, with TCC a competitor to BAT since 1995, later taken over by JTI. Iceberg was one of the attempts to introduce a modern, mentholated product to the local market.
